     The school library program serves to instill a love of reading, inspire life-long learning, and foster independent library use. Students visit once a week for drama class and to check out books.  Also, students will be practicing information literacy skills.

Library NTI Assignments

NTI learning is an instruction program allowing students to continue learning from home via technology on days when students are out of school.  The Superintendent will decide when days are designated as NTI days.  On these days, assignments for students can be accessed by visiting a teacher's classroom website.  Please read the directions below for your grade level to view your assignment.  If you have no way of printing the templates, use your own sheet of notebook paper to complete the assignment.



K-1 grades

Complete the story map on any book of your choice that is on/around your reading level.  Use the link on my links page under "File Manager" on this webpage for the primary grade story map.  Pick a book of your choice and describe what happen in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. If you do not have a means to print out the template, you can use a sheet of notebook paper and describe what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  If you prefer one of the choices for the 2-3 and 4-6 grade assignments, you are more than welcome to complete one of them instead.  Only one per week is required.



2-3 grades

Complete the story map on a book of your choice that is on/around your reading level.  Use the link under "File Manager" on this webpage for the story map for 2nd/3rd grades to describe the characters, setting, problem and solution of the story.  If you do not have a means to print out the template, you can use a sheet of notebook paper and describe the characters, setting, problem and solution of the story.  If you prefer one of the choices for the 4-6 grade assignments, you are more than welcome to complete one of them instead.  Only one per week is required.

4-6 grades

 

Below are choices for a project that you may complete on the book of your choice that is on your reading level.  Choose one and follow the directions.  

Project Choices for grades 4-6:  ONLY CHOOSE 1 per week to COMPLETE!!!

1. Make a  “WANTED” poster for a character in the book.  Choose a character from the book who could be “wanted” for crimes and or bad choices.
   
2. Make a new book jacket for the book.  Draw and illustrate the front cover.  On the back include important quotes from the book and a brief summary of the book.
   
3. Write a friendly letter to the author.  Include your opinion of the book, the character you are most like and why, and any questions that you may have about the book.  
   
4. Write out interview questions between you and the main character.  Write 5 questions to ask the character.  Include answers you think the character would write in response.
   
5. Create an illustrated timeline.  Choose 5 important events in the story.  Include a short description of each event.  The events should be in correct order.  
   
6. Create a Venn Diagram to show similarities and differences between the main character and you.  
   
7. Make a Google Slide or Power Point presentation about your book.  Include the title. Author, plot, outline, setting description, character description, book review, and/or facts you have learned. You can e-mail these to me as an attachment:  robin.crosby@christian.kyschools.us
   
8. Find a meme that would be used by a character in the story & explain why that meme is appropriate
   
9. Rewrite a scene/chapter from another character's point of view
   
10. Write a journal/diary entry that the character would have written after an event in the plot

I check and answer e-mail several times per day.  Also, you may turn these assignments into the NTI folder provided to you by your classroom teacher or e-mail it to me.

Scholastic GO! contains more than 115,000 articles covering every core-curriculum subject.  Upon logging in, users will come to the Scholastic GO! Home page. The home page offers a prominently placed Search box.

Teen Book Cloud-
TeenBookCloud (TBC) is an online database of eBooks and educator resources perfect for a middle school, high school, or public library. TBC offers over 1,000 titles in a variety of formats, including ebooks, Graphic Novels, classic literature, National Geographic videos, and audiobooks, and supports a wide range of reading interests and levels.

Storyline Online-

Storyline Online is a children's literacy website created by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, which provides free storytelling videos and resources for parents and teachers to foster a love of reading in children.

 

TumbleBooks-

TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books, adding sound, narration, music, and animation to create an electronic picture books.  These electronic books are a literacy resource that keeps children interested and involved in reading and are great for children learning to read.
